Hi! You are welcome to our school! I can’t wait to see you, we all can’t wait to see you! You are going to make friends at school and play and learn and it is going to be so much fun that you won’t even believe it. We might be here and you will meet us and maybe we will be friends. Or maybe we will be grown up and at the Big Big School.
Group time is inside in the morning. But then maybe we have group time outside too! When it is inside, we sit on the carpet at group time; we sit crisscross apple sauce. We can sit on our bums. But we aren’t rolling on the floor. We aren’t break dancing. This is learning time and we have the right to learn. At group time we learn about feelings and problems and solving problems. This is important stuff.
First, you put on your backpack. No, first, first you put on your jacket or snowsuit and then you put on your backpack and then you go for a walk.
Fast feet across the street! You can hold hands, or not hold hands, but you have to be safe. You can sing when you walk, too, but if you are helping pulling the wagon, you need to concentrate.
When we go outside, there’s a plan - just ask the teacher. Sometimes we change the plan, though, so it is good to have flexible thinking! The plan is a group plan. A group plan is everyone gets together, and anything can be a group plan!
We can make forts and houses and everything. If you work by your own it's harder; if you followed your own plan, you would be over there, and I would be here, and the teacher would be over there and it would be confusing. If we didn't follow the group plan, things wouldn't get done! And group plans might need teamwork! Everything is better with teamwork!
You have to bring your lunch. You have the right to healthy foods, like apples. Chicken noodle soup. Noodles. Cucumbers. Sometimes a sandwich. Cookies are good for a snack; so are cheese and yogurt.
In the winter it is colder, and you don't want to have cold things anymore for eating! You could bring milk. Warm milk or hot milk! You can bring a thermos, and then have chicken or alphaghetti.
If it’s not summer, we build our tent! You have to take off your shoes or boots before you go in the tent. You don’t get cold because in the tent because the tent is warm! If you are hot, there are windows in the sides and the middle.
You have to lie down for 45 minutes. You can sleep, or be awake and just lie down. But you can’t even talk, not even one word! Everyone has the right to rest. Except if you have to pee. But you should pee before lunch and after lunch. Bring a blanket or a stuffed animal, but if they are too big, probably they won’t fit in your back pack or maybe they would take up the whole tent!
When it is sunny and hot, we don't even use the tent. We have blankets and we rest in the shade on grass. It's good to rest under a tree because it is shady and maybe there are bugs on the tree to watch if you don't fall asleep.
Sometimes we have letters and sometimes we don't. It's a magical mailbox but also a normal mailbox. We can get letters from Trolly the Troll, and the Fairies and Puff the Dragon and the Mermaids and Brownie. Maybe even other guys that we don’t know about yet. I love it best when I check the mailbox. And do you know what, one day I checked the mailbox and there was a letter! And the letter had gold monies in it from Fairy Lavender!
Calming down makes the big emotions smaller, and it makes you use your Pre-Frontal Cortex. Sometimes big emotions are ok, and sometimes they need to be small. It’s super tricky. But the Pre-Frontal Cortex helps you think about problems. Instead of just crying and running around all crazy. Because when you are not calm, and you are big emotions, you can't really think of the problem and maybe you can't think of the solution and then what would happen? I don't even know what would happen.
This is how friends works: my friends go to school with me, and we are friends because we play together and we sing Moana together. Sometimes we wear the same dress, like me and Bella did!
Friends love each other, and sometimes you get mad but you are still friends, you just want privacy. Or like I want to play Lego and Philian wants to play Monsters. So then you have to maybe play with someone else, but you still love! And if you need help get the yogurt lid off, they will help you. That’s how it works!
